Resumo: The inhabitants of the city, producers and consumers of urban space, have increasingly distanced themselves from living and sharing collective experiences in public spaces. One of the reasons is rooted in the road- block logic that has prevailed in the planning and design of these spaces, which privileges the car in detriment of the global mobility of people. Thus, most of the city area is given to highways and its landscape is over- crowded with viaducts and tunnels to remedy the traffic jam that the in- efficiency of public transport as well as the poor infrastructure for cycling and walking causes. Starting from the idea that those postures, herewith the capitalist production of the city, approached by authors like David Harvey (2005), Jordi Borja (2000, 2009) and Carlos Vainer (2009) remove the individual from the public space, once the scale of the sensitive is lost, the author appropriates the notion of places and non-places by Marc Augé (1992) and Ana Fani Carlos (2007), as a way reverse this process, looking at a human scale, as advocated by Jan Gehl (2013) and Jane Jacobs (1961). In this sense, combating the vehicle hegemony, the per- ception of the vast residual spaces of the Dom Eugênio Sales Intersection results from the works undertaken for the urban mobility planning of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Thus, it is intended not only to bring the notions of collective space and human city but also to investigate the planning process so as to question the legislation and take advantage of the resid- ual spaces of the intersection for a new sense of place. The development of the proposal took place through imaging conceptual exercises that try inspire new solutions for the great road infrastructures and demonstrate that it is possible to capture the sense of place and identity in the public space and to accommodate the demands of all modes of transportation, whether active or motorized. In addition, it seeks to sow a new reading of the public space, in which the conviviality and an urban experience cross the limits of the plazzas and flood the streets, to create this magic scenery of human experiences and landscapes.

In addition, it seeks to sow a new reading of the public space, in which the conviviality and an urban experience cross the limits of the plazzas and flood the streets, to create this magic scenery of human experiences and landscapes.
