Resumo: This work evaluates the effects of evaporation in two reservoirs of the northeastern semi-arid region, the Cruzeta (RN) reservoir and the Engenheiro Armando Ribeiro Gonçalves reservoir (RN). The water loss for this phenomenon was estimated by two methods, the empirical method of Jensen-Haise and the method of Tank Class A. The results generated showed that the reservoirs have a high annual evaporation rate. The Cruzeta dam represents an annual evaporation of 30% to 50% of its maximum volume, and the Armando Ribeiro Dam being between 10% and 18%. With regard to precipitation, it was verified that the Brazilian northeast is characterized by few rains with small volumes during the year, which are lower than the volumes evaporated from the dams. As for the uses granted, it was proved that the Cruzeta dam is underutilized, considering that the annual withdrawal volumes are around 10% while their evaporation reaches up to 50%. While in the Armando Ribeiro reservoir this difference is not so great, because it is a large reservoir and contains larger demands, but still has considerable evaporation rates in most of the period analyzed. The results also showed that the methods used returned similar evaporation values for the semi-arid waters. Therefore, it is necessary to study the phenomenon to predict the proper location of new reservoirs, as well as to ensure the efficient management of the reserved waters of existing ones.

As perdas de água por tal fenômeno foi estimada por dois métodos, o método empírico de Jensen-Haise e pelo método do Tanque Classe A. Os resultados gerados demonstraram que os reservatórios possuem uma taxa de evaporação anual elevada. O açude Cruzeta perfazendo uma evaporação anual de 30% a 50% do seu volume máximo, e a Barragem Armando Ribeiro estando entre 10% a 18%. Com relação à precipitação foi comprovado que o nordeste brasileiro se caracteriza por poucas chuvas com pequenos volumes durante o ano, sendo estes inferiores aos volumes evaporados dos açudes. Quanto aos usos outorgados foi provado que o açude de Cruzeta encontra-se mal aproveitado, tendo em vista que os volumes anuais de retirada são em torno de 10% enquanto que sua evaporação atinge até os 50%. Enquanto no reservatório Armando Ribeiro essa diferença não é tão acentuada, em virtude de ser um reservatório de grande porte e conter demandas maiores, mas mesmo assim ainda possui taxas de evaporação consideráveis na maior parte do período analisado. Os resultados mostraram também que os métodos utilizados retornam valores de evaporação semelhantes para águas reservadas no semiárido.
