This assignment consists of a critical analysis, based on connections between text, real pictures and photomontages, describing spatial transformations in Natal from the twenty-first century. The essayistic character of the work seeks to elucidate reflections on the established urban order, and is based conceptually on “Junkspace”, a text written by the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. Methodologically, it was based on a diagnosis not systematized of the South and East areas of the studied city, relating the contemporary spatial production elements found the previously mentioned areas with the concept that underpins this work. It built up also an argument from the literature review needed to understand the central theme. Thus, a debate was generated, establishing an expression of the architecture found here, showing the perpetuating mechanisms of a society of consumers. From various reflections raised by the implementation of Junkspace Natal’s urban reality, it was settled a critique of current social issues. In addition, using the technique of photomontage, we drew up fictitious scenarios that seek to strengthen concepts discussed throughout the work, prompting further reflection on the current city, possible futures, and the role of planners and urban spatial producers in producing urbanity in a sphere dominated by the consumerism issue.
