Resumo: | Zeolites are microporous materials due to their structural organization that allow the separation of molecules because of their sizes. For this reason, zeolites are also known as molecular sieves. This group of materials has many industrial applications, such as adsorption, ion exchange of detergents, catalysis and so on. The study of zeolites has undergone accelerated growth in the last 60 years, and the development and analysis of different synthesis methods had decisive role. In this work, zeolite A was obtained using alkaline fusion followed by a hydrothermal treatment where the residual glass powder (RGP) was used as source of SiO2 and AlO2. During the synthesis, the parameter evaluated was the alkaline fusion temperature which varied from 250°C to 500°C. The synthesized materials and residual glass powder (RGP) were characterized by chemical analysis using energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Based on the EDX result, the RGP was identified as a silica rich material (about 70%). In addition, the diffractograms and micrographs showed an amorphous nature for the RGP. Also, the formation of zeolite-A was observed at 350˚C and 500˚C by the characterization of the synthesized materials. In fact, an secondary formation (zeolite-X) was verified, because the rise in alkaline fusion temperature caused an increase in the solubility of the species. The results showed the importance of the studied parameter that has direct influence on the formed structural network and the efficiency of the residual glass powder as an alternative source. |

Residual Glass PowderAlternative SourceEngenharias.
