Artes visuais, loucura e moda : articulações para uma alfabetização estética na residência artística do Hospital Psiquiátrico Doutor João Machado

This work presents the observations made from the articulation between visual arts, fashion and madness within the Artistic Residence implemented since 2013 in the Psychiatric Hospital Doutor João Machado - HPDJ, exploring the space of the own artistic residence for practices of a esthetic literacy with the inmates in treatment at the Hospital, in order to reaffirm the relevance of the visual arts of the creative processes used in artistic actions within this hospital space. This work has as main objective the development of the language and artistic abilities of the inmates, through aesthetic literacy proposed in the research, with the support of a team of professionals in the field of mental health, in an appropriate space, provided by the institution, for such Artistic practices, culminating in an exhibition in the Annex building Hall of the Department of Arts of UFRN, from November 27 to December 1, 2017. My interest is justified by the desire to teach visual arts, together with the incessant personal search to contribute to the rescue of the autonomy and humanization of these people, minimizing the damages caused by the social neglect they have spent for years, promoting an experience in the visual arts that can lead to psychic well-being and reestablish the mental health of these patients in the short and long term. It is also the fruit of an extensive on-the-spot research in the HPDJ, developed by the Transdisciplinary Research Center for Scenic and Performing Arts, coordinated by Professor Dr Nara Salles and Dr. Josadaque Pires, from which I am a member since 2014 I will use the following authors: Fayga Ostrewer, Wassily Kandinsky, Paulo Freire, Vigotski, Foucault, Gonzalez-Rey, Nise da Silveira and the life and work of Artur Bishop of the Rosary, told by Luciana Hidalgo, who were extremely Relevant to the investigations presented here, dialoguing directly with the aesthetic literacy practices developed with the inmates in the residence. We will also provoke an important discussion about the need for spaces such as this one of the Artistic Residence within the Psychiatric Hospitals in our country, understanding that the anti-asylum fight, which we support, even if it is of fundamental importance, is taking slow steps.
