Resumo: INTRODUCTION: Although regular physical exercises prove effective in fighting and preventing chronic diseases everyday, high inactivity rates of the general population is presented as a public health problem. Faced with this problem the pleasure component in the exercise arises in order to promote adhesion in the training program. In strength training is important to know which intensity would report more pleasure to the beginner in this modality, because it could help to minimize early drop-out rates to the training program. OBJECTIVE: Analyze the relationship between intensity of the exercise and the perception of pleasure in strength training in beginner subjects. METHODS: Study consists of 4 beginners in strength training (24.3 ± 3.7 years). The study consisted of 11 sessions, at the first 3 were made 3 tests of 10 RM in the exercises of extensor chair and bench press in order to find the intensities corresponding to 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% and 100% of 10 RM. In the other 8 sessions were performed 3 sets of 10 repetitions for each exercise, and each series the subject would report of subjective perceived exertion (SPE) through the OMINI-RES scale and the pleasure realized with the use of scale affection Hardy & Rejeski. The results were presented in average and standard deviation and a Pearson correlation was used to analyze the relationship between the perceived pleasure and intensity of exercise (p <0.05). OBJECTIVE: Analyze the relationship between intensity of the exercise and the perception of pleasure in strength training in beginner subjects. RESULTS: It was observed a moderate correlation between the perception of pleasure and intensity of exercise (r = -0,61 e -0,54 for extension chair and bench press, respectively. The medium values of perception of pleasure behaved in a curvilinear way along of intensities. In general, the unpleasant response was observed in over 80% 10RM. CONCLUSION: The intensity of strength training influences the emotional responses in beginners showing a negative and moderate correlation, being the range of intensity more pleasant between 60% and 80% 10RM, and intensities over 80% 10RM realized as unpleasant.
