Resumo: Uncontrolled consumption gains space in the contemporary society causing socials, economics and environmental problems, triggered by the large amount of solid waste (SW) produced and destinated incorrectly. The environmental education (EE) in conjunction with environmental practices can be considered essential tools in the search for sustainable development. In this perspective, the aim of this work was to implement the practice of Horticulture in the Outpatient Clinic for the Prevention and Treatment of Alcoholism, Smoking and Other Drug Addictions and carry out a survey of the environmental knowledge and perspective of the employees with the application of a questionnaire. Using the structural diagnosis of the ambulatory; the analysis of the applied questionnaire and the awareness of employees and patients by a lecture, the practice of horticulture was implemented in APTAD using reusable materials. However, the soil poor in nutrients, the lack of resources, in addition to the watering only in the afternoon period, compromised the appropriated development of some vegetables. Despite these limiting factors, the vegetable garden improved the external appearance from the local. In order to mitigate the impacts that SW causes to the environment, are necessary management models that apply the EE in the both area, education and health, as well as globally for the entire population.

Apesar desses fatores limitantes, a horta melhorou o aspecto externo do local.
