“Looking for the right story”: : World War II elements in US and UK film productions

Resumo: This text is an initial reflection on the strong presence of the Second World War as a direct or transversal theme in films produced in the United States and the United Kingdom in the first two decades of this century. Using comparative methodology, we seek to highlight the political uses of this theme within the logic of cinema's cultural production and which mechanisms and discourses were allocated to the diversity of works, presenting different perspectives on the war period but also building concepts that were linked to a series of other analyzes on the role of each country as an actor in the development and conclusion of the Second World War.

A partir da metodologia comparada, buscamos evidenciar os usos políticos desta temática dentro uma lógica da produção cultural do cinema e quais mecanismos e discursos foram alocados na diversidade de obras, apresentando diferentes perspectivas sobre o período de guerra mas também construindo conceitos que foram vinculados à uma série de outras análises sobre o papel de cada um dos países como ator no desenrolar e conclusão da Segunda Guerra.
