Resumo: Floodplain is the range of the terrain in / effluent to flooded river valley, where they perform groundwater recharge and flows regulation, important environmental services. We conducted a survey of the flood plains of the Para?ba do Sul River, located in southeastern Brazil. Through GIS techniques, using ArcGIS 10 and ENVI 4.7 software, the flood plains were isolated and characterized morphometrically. Through cluster analysis, the plains were grouped according to their abilities to management based on the renaturation of its hydrological functions: a) outlier due to the extensive area (unit), b) low potential for management (9 units); c) Average potential renaturation (15 units), d) high potential management (52 units). From this group, we selected flood plain with high management potential, in order to generate information that will enhance the ability of water regulation, spatialising uses of areas as potential for renaturation of hydrological functions of floodplains and the consequent generation of environmental services in the basin of the Para?ba do Sul river was measured height of the groundwater table through the installation and / or measurement of piezometers in urban areas (13 piezometers) in non-urbanized areas (09 piezometers) and the margins of the trough (03 piezometers). Statistical analysis between different situations, we used the method of model identity. Significant difference between the piezometers located in the urbanized area and not urbanized area. We conclude that urbanization inhibits hydrological functions and recommended the shield of non-urbanized areas of the floodplains of the same cluster of the study area through the creation of PAs that direct use by prezem and environmental planning. The total area of floodplain (215,660.22 ha) represents 3.87% of the basin area, demonstrating that focal actions in specific areas of the basin, that protect the functions of floodplains, can bring considerable returns on water regulation and continuity of flow. These actions give higher responses with less investment. The survey and classification of floodplains in accordance with management potential are fundamental to what actions are carried out in locations with favorable deployment of conservation management strategies to increase the storage capacity of water features.

Realizou-se o levantamento das plan?cies de inunda??o do rio Para?ba do Sul, localizado no sudeste brasileiro, atrav?s de t?cnicas de geoprocessamento, com uso dos softwares ArcGIS 10 e ENVI 4.7, de modo que as plan?cies de inunda??o foram individualizadas e caracterizadas morfometricamente. Atrav?s da An?lise de Cluster, as plan?cies foram agrupadas em fun??o das suas habilidades para manejo com base na renaturaliza??o das suas fun??es hidrol?gicas em: a) outlier devido ? extensa ?rea (uma unidade); b) baixo potencial de manejo (9 unidades); c) m?dio potencial de renaturaliza??o (15 unidades); d) alto potencial de manejo (52 unidades). A partir deste agrupamento foram selecionadas plan?cie de inunda??o com alto potencial de manejo, visando gerar informa??es que permitam aumentar a capacidade de regulariza??o h?drica, espacializando os usos de ?reas como potencial para renaturaliza??o de fun??es hidrol?gicas das plan?cies de inunda??o e sua consequente gera??o de servi?os ambientais na bacia hidrogr?fica do rio Para?ba do Sul. Mediu-se a altura do len?ol fre?tico atrav?s da instala??o e/ou medi??o do n?vel da ?gua (NA) em ?reas urbanizadas (13 medidores de NA), em ?reas n?o urbanizadas (09 medidores de NA) e as margens da calha (03 medidores de NA). Para an?lise estat?stica entre as diferentes situa??es, utilizou-se o m?todo de identidade de modelos. Houve diferen?a significativa entre os medidores localizados na ?rea urbanizada e na ?rea n?o urbanizada. Conclui-se que a urbaniza??o inibe as fun??es hidrol?gicas e recomenda-se o resguardo das ?reas n?o urbanizadas das plan?cies de inunda??o do mesmo grupo da ?rea de estudo atrav?s da cria??o de UCs que direcionem o uso e prezem pelo planejamento ambiental. A soma da ?rea das plan?cies de inunda??o (215.660,22 ha) representa 3,87% da ?rea da bacia, demonstrando que a??es focais em locais espec?ficos da bacia, que resguardem as fun??es das plan?cies de inunda??o, podem trazer retornos consider?veis na regulariza??o h?drica e na perenidade da vaz?o. Essas a??es conferem maiores respostas com menor investimento. description Floodplain is the range of the terrain in / effluent to flooded river valley, where they perform groundwater recharge and flows regulation, important environmental services. We conducted a survey of the flood plains of the Para?ba do Sul River, located in southeastern Brazil. Through GIS techniques, using ArcGIS 10 and ENVI 4.7 software, the flood plains were isolated and characterized morphometrically. Through cluster analysis, the plains were grouped according to their abilities to management based on the renaturation of its hydrological functions: a) outlier due to the extensive area (unit), b) low potential for management (9 units); c) Average potential renaturation (15 units), d) high potential management (52 units). From this group, we selected flood plain with high management potential, in order to generate information that will enhance the ability of water regulation, spatialising uses of areas as potential for renaturation of hydrological functions of floodplains and the consequent generation of environmental services in the basin of the Para?ba do Sul river was measured height of the groundwater table through the installation and / or measurement of piezometers in urban areas (13 piezometers) in non-urbanized areas (09 piezometers) and the margins of the trough (03 piezometers). Statistical analysis between different situations, we used the method of model identity. Significant difference between the piezometers located in the urbanized area and not urbanized area. We conclude that urbanization inhibits hydrological functions and recommended the shield of non-urbanized areas of the floodplains of the same cluster of the study area through the creation of PAs that direct use by prezem and environmental planning. The total area of floodplain (215,660.22 ha) represents 3.87% of the basin area, demonstrating that focal actions in specific areas of the basin, that protect the functions of floodplains, can bring considerable returns on water regulation and continuity of flow. These actions give higher responses with less investment. The survey and classification of floodplains in accordance with management potential are fundamental to what actions are carried out in locations with favorable deployment of conservation management strategies to increase the storage capacity of water features.
