Resumo: This study was conducted in the management environment of a chemical industry, Company X, viewed through the prism of the complexity of the process, from the standpoint of learning processes, development of cooperation, management strategies in use (or nonuse) and how it is lived day to day when the events, apparently random, happen. The overall objective was to characterize the management environment at a chemical industry and identify their practices, with the view of the complex. The specific goals were set up concepts involving complexity and processes called complex, identify inside the industry environment episodes possibly related to the logic of complexity, to raise and understand the different aspects of management of Company X, to compare aspects of management of the company with the different points raised about complexity, in order to identify possible points of convergence and to identify possible points either practical or theoretical for better understanding. Based on literature, features of the classic and of the complex were chosen to be highlighted in the study. "Errors as a source of learning" and "Rules and Regulations first" in opposite directions from each other, were those to identify the causal and dynamic and reconstructive characteristics; "People participating and influential" and "People away", also in opposite, to identify the relationship between observer and object and for the nonlinearity; "The singularity and punctual important" and "Universal principles important", opposite and to identify the universe of study and understanding in the organization; "Organic" and "mechanistic" opposite characteristics to identify either the nonlinearity as the approach to the study of phenomena; "Fitting in network" to identify the appearance of autonomy and ambiguity and ambivalence, "Selforganization" and "Order given a priori?, opposite each other, and "Learning" to identify the occurrence of the irreversibility of evolutionary and dialectical process and systems of order as well. It was used action research methodology with a case study, where used logbooks, interviews and secondary data. Data collection lasted eight months. It was notice the occurrence of all features in the study and that the classical and the complex were present in the environment management study as well. It was identified that the delegated authority, the "solving-problem" attitude and the pressure to solve problems facilitate the emergence of characteristics of complexity. The search for universality and simplifications are features that occur on the top of the organization. However there is support to the singular and punctual when delay in solve problems happen. It is suggested perform in other organizations similar survey that was conducted at the Company X to confirm and or open new horizons of understanding in management via a qualitative approach of Complexity Theory. It is also suggests investigating if the operational employees are also more linked to the concepts of the classic and take a look using a quantitative study of the Complexity Theory within the studied organization in an attempt to get useful tools for management.

Made available in DSpace on 2019-06-04T14:17:39Z (GMT). description This study was conducted in the management environment of a chemical industry, Company X, viewed through the prism of the complexity of the process, from the standpoint of learning processes, development of cooperation, management strategies in use (or nonuse) and how it is lived day to day when the events, apparently random, happen.
