This article to discuss the difficulties in the initial Formation of Biology teachers iluminated by contemporary rationalities based on technique and pratice. In light of the underlying theorization, we carried an analysis of the Pedagogical Course Project (PPC) of a univrsity in northeatern Brazil. Our analysis proposed na alternative rationality to technical and instrumental rationality: the critical and dialectical rationality imanente to the Formation of Self. In the contexto of the 21st century, national systems of the High Schools are stron gly marked by the logico f competences. And initial Formation is almost strictly focused on business demands. We postulate the possibility that there is another type of Formation commited to the ethical-aestetihc-political-human dimension. This human Formation within a project of the self, can be a way for the formation of autonomous and transforming intellectuals and focused on the creation of human values. In perspective, we call teacher formatting the standard perspective of Formation in Biology teachers in Brazil, which essentially seeks to produce technicians who carry out skills and competences, defined by normative documents drafted under the influence of businesse reformers of education.
