This degree final project intends to trace an analysis to considerable questions pertinent to the ordering and accumulation of documents. Based on this study, we will analyze, from an archival point of view, the "Document Management in the processing of patient records in the Report and Statistical Unit of the University Hospital of Sergipe, and its applicability. The document management from the point of view of the authors Bellotto (2002) and Schellenberg (2008), as well as the applicability of Federal Law No. 8.159, under the National policy of public and private archives, point to a reality that overcomes the importance of these methods within of the institution. The technical approach of the patient's chart, according to Galvão and Ricarte (2012) evidences the treatment of this documentary typology. The research showed a reality lived within the Unit of Records and Statistics of the University Hospital in the face of an explicit lack of archival policies that favors the organizational structure and facilities, as well as the need for investments in technologies aimed at the development of efficient and effective work. The analysis pointed to two ways to solve problems in the management of patients' medical records: the expansion of physical facilities, furniture and equipment or the adoption of ICT (hardware and software), the Electronic Patient Record (PEP) and the digitization of the traditional documentary legacy. In the second case, the solution would have definite results, but would imply a much greater investment and also the training of the entire HU team. With this, it became evident the justification of this work as well as its objectives investigated showed the analysis and the technical procedures aimed at the management aiming at the effectiveness of the work, since the Patient Record is vital in the accuracy of medical and outpatient care
