The present work analyzed the behavior of the internal user, undergraduate health students and postgraduate students, in the process of searching for information in physical medical records (paper), in the context of the medical file of the University Hospital of Sergipe. Therefore, the problem that permeated this research was defined as follows: What are the main difficulties in the search for information, related to the research performed in the HU-SE medical records file? Therefore, the general objective of this study was to analyze the behavior of the internal user, undergraduate health students and residents, in the process of seeking information in physical records in the context of the medical file of the HU-SE medical unit. Specific objectives were: to identify the internal user profile of the medical archive service of the HU-SE; raise the information needs of users; and present through the data raised the difficulties reported by users in the search for information in physical records. The methodology adopted to achieve the objectives proposed in this study was the bibliographical, descriptive and exploratory research, with qualitative approach. Data collection was made through visits to the physical space of the HU-SE Ambulatory with application of the research form in person, consisting of guiding questions related to the study objectives. The research universe was initially fifty students, from which we obtained an approximate result of fifty percent in the answers, that is, twenty-five questionnaires answered, a significant amount when we observe that the collection period was restricted to the academic recess period. from the Federal University of Sergipe. The results of the objectives of this research were achieved, where it was evident, through the respondents' answers, the importance of a larger project of archive organization, involving both human resources and physical structure. They were unanimous in pointing out the extreme need for computerization of the collection through the implantation of electronic medical records.
