This work talks about outsourcing logistics activities, arguing about being strategic alternative to the contractor. It also presents the case of a logistics operator - created as a spinoff company, which operates with multimodality and offer logistics services in the flow of agricultural commodities to the Port of Santos. After introducing the concept of integrated logistics, factors are discussed in the decision to hire the logistics service, considering the alternatives available in the market. It is questioned whether this decision has a strategic character and what the conditions of hiring logistics operators. Especially for the transport activity, rise factors for choice of loads and modal transport system to be used. The article presents, finally, the empirical study on the service to support the export of sugar in the State of São Paulo. It appears that the competence of the logistics operator engaged in the provision of reliable services and flexibility is the contracted - shipper of São Paulo sugar for foreign trade, advantages in cost, agility and performance in cargo consolidation for shipment. The sugar export logistics become even more competitive in São Paulo sugar, compared to that produced by other Brazilian regions.
