Considering the possibilities in the use of literary works set in historical events. This article deals with the relationship between History and Literature, based on an analysis of the novel Como Água para Chocolate (1989), by Mexican writer Laura Esquivel, in order to demonstrate how the Mexican Revolution appears in that work and, thus, point out How we can understand its events, analyzing the references to the Revolution present in the novel that tells the story of Tita and her fight for love and freedom. To do so, it was necessary to present the Mexican Revolution, as a transformative historical process, which was consolidated in the country's political, cultural and social imagination. Next, a brief outline was made of the discussions that guide the interfaces between History and Literature and, finally, how these areas meet, in Esquivel's narrative, which walks between the real and the unreal. And also, how the author was inspired by the events of the decade in which her work was released.
