Entre o virtual e o real : a legitimação e a expansão do esporte eletrônico

Resumo: E-sport is short for electronic sports, which is the term used to name professional electronic game competitions in the world. Similar to traditional sports, the competitions are organized in different modalities. The e-sports market is a global phenomenon that in recent years has gone through a great process of professionalization, with competitions growing significantly in structure and starting to offer regular calendars with high valued prizes for the organizations, which see it as professional work. This study aimed to analyze and understand the main factors that contributed to the growth of electronic sports and the conditions that can attract players to this scenario, so we can understand how the consolidation of this modality occurred in the 21st century. To carry out this research, we used the qualitative textual method that is characterized by analysis of pre-existing texts or of produced material through interviews and new observations of the researcher. The data of this research was constituted by articles related to games and electronic games, news on electronic sports and interviews with people from the state of Sergipe (Northeast Brazil) who have been involved with electronic sports. As a result, we realized that e-sports have gone from a controversial theme to an accepted phenomenon, especially through its approximation to traditional sports and the growing participation of institutions, traditional teams and celebrities in this scenario; and it has continued to develop thanks to technological advances and the arrival of electronic sports in the media, as well as the gratuity of access to the main modalities of this context, which ends up attracting players

Semelhante aos esportes tradicionais, as competições são organizadas em diversas modalidades. O mercado do esporte eletrônico é um fenômeno global que nos últimos anos passou por um grande processo de profissionalização, com as competições crescendo muito em estrutura e passando a oferecer calendários regulares com prêmios milionários para as organizações, que encaram isso como trabalho. A presente monografia teve como objetivo analisar e compreender os principais fatores que contribuíram para o crescimento do esporte eletrônico e as condições que podem atrair jogadores para este cenário, para podermos entender como se deu a consolidação desta modalidade no século XXI. Para realizar esta pesquisa, foi utilizado o método textual qualitativo que se caracteriza por análises de textos já existentes ou de material produzido por meio de entrevistas e novas observações do pesquisador. Os dados desse estudo foram constituídos por artigos relacionados ao jogo e ao jogo eletrônico, notícias sobre o esporte eletrônico e entrevistas com atores sergipanos envolvidos nos esportes eletrônicos.
