Resumo: This work aims to characterize the phytophysiognomies occurring in the Santa Isabel Biological Reserve, located in the north coast of Sergipe. The phytophysiognomies found in this Biological Reserve are similar to the ones found at others areas of “restinga” of Northeast region of Brazil. Seven different phytophysiognomic types were found, determined mainly by nature of the substrate and distance to the sea, divided in two distinct formations: “praial-campestre” formations (“campo aberto não inundável” [CANI], “campo aberto inundável” [CAI], “campo fechado inundável” [CFI], and “campo fechado não inundável” [CFNI]) and “restinga” formations (“fruticeto aberto não inundável” [FANI], “fruticeto fechado não inundável” [FFNI], and “floresta não inundável” [FNI]).

As fitofisionomias encontradas nesta REBIO são similares às de outras áreas de restinga da Região Nordeste do Brasil, sendo observadas sete fitofisionomias distintas, determinadas principalmente pela natureza do substrato e pela distância com o mar. Dessa forma, foi possível dividir duas formações básicas, a primeira praial-campestre: campo aberto não inundável (CANI), campo aberto inundável (CAI), campo fechado inundável (CFI) e campo fechado não inundável (CFNI).
