Resumo: | This thesis analyzes the way in which some international pedagogical ideas were appropriated for the teaching of foreign languages in the public education of the country by Brazilian politicians and educators between 1823 and 1890. For that, we initially used the year 1823, the date in which Martim Francisco Ribeiro de Andrada, then deputy, presented to the Constituent and Legislative Assembly of the Empire of Brazil, a project for the elaboration of a national instruction, and the end, 1890, the year in that José Veríssimo Dias Matos wrote a proposal for Brazilian education, aiming to meet the wishes of the Republic installed in the country. This is a bibliographic and documentary research, and the legislation, periodicals and ministerial reports and those of the Provincial Assemblies were taken as documentary sources. The research presents, as theoretical assumptions, the concepts of Chartier (1990): circulation and appropriation; and de Chervel (1990): school subjects. For this study, it was used as sources the productions of Martim Francisco (1823), Tavares Bastos (1870), Antônio de Almeida Oliveira (1874), Liberato Barroso (1867), Ruy Barbosa (1882), Sílvio Romero (1979) and José Veríssimo (1890). The aforementioned thinkers have become a reference in Brazilian education by moving the debate around pedagogical ideals based on foreign experiences, recreating and modifying them so that their implementation became possible in the country. When discussing the development of educational thinkers' pedagogical ideas for the project of civility, modernity and progress, based on international conceptions for the country's education, language teaching found fertile ground. The study of foreign languages would serve as an instrument of access to the sciences produced in Europe and the United States, thus contributing to the civilizational ideal of the 19th century. |

Pour cela, nous utilisons initialement l'année 1823, la date à laquelle lequel Martim Francisco Ribeiro de Andrada, alors député, présenta à l'Assemblée générale constituante et législative de l'Empire du Brésil un projet d'élaboration de l'instruction nationale, et la fin de 1890, l'année où José Veríssimo Dias Matos écrivit une proposition de L'éducation brésilienne, visant à répondre aux aspirations de la République installée dans le pays. Il s'agit d'une recherche bibliographique et documentaire, et la législation, les périodiques et rapports ministériels et ceux des Assemblées provinciales ont été pris comme sources documentaires. La recherche présente, comme hypothèses théoriques, les concepts de Chartier (1990) : circulation et appropriation ; et de Chervel (1990) : matières scolaires. Dans cette étude, nous prenons comme référence les travaux de Martim Francisco (1823), Tavares Bastos (1870), Antônio de Almeida Oliveira (1874), Liberato Barroso (1867), Ruy Barbosa (1882), Sílvio Romero (1979) et José Vérissimo (1890). Les penseurs susmentionnés sont devenus une référence dans l'éducation brésilienne en déplaçant le débat autour d'idéaux pédagogiques basés sur des expériences étrangères, en les recréant et en les modifiant afin que leur mise en œuvre devienne possible dans le pays. En discutant du développement des idées pédagogiques des penseurs de l'éducation pour le projet de civilité, de modernité et de progrès, résultant des conceptions internationales de l'éducation du pays, l'enseignement des langues a trouvé un terrain fertile. L'étude des langues étrangères servira d'instrument d'accès aux sciences produites en Europe et aux États-Unis, contribuant ainsi à l'idéal civilisationnel du XIXe siècle.Esta tese analisa o modo pelo qual algumas ideias pedagógicas internacionais foram apropriadas para o ensino das línguas estrangeiras na instrução pública do País por políticos e educadores brasileiros entre 1823 e 1890. Para tanto, utilizamos, inicialmente, o ano de 1823, data em que Martim Francisco Ribeiro de Andrada, então deputado, apresentou à Assembleia Geral Constituinte e Legislativa do Império do Brasil um projeto de elaboração de instrução nacional, e o final 1890, ano em que José Veríssimo Dias Matos escreveu uma proposta para educação brasileira, visando atender aos anseios da República instalada no País. Trata-se de uma pesquisa de cunho bibliográfico e documental, em que foram tomadas como fontes documentais a legislação, os periódicos e os relatórios ministeriais e das Assembleias Provinciais. A pesquisa apresenta, como pressupostos teóricos os conceitos de Chartier (1990): circulação e apropriação; e de Chervel (1990): disciplinas escolares. Neste estudo, tomamos como referência as obras de Martim Francisco (1823), Tavares Bastos (1870), Antônio de Almeida Oliveira (1874), Liberato Barroso (1867), Ruy Barbosa (1882), Sílvio Romero (1979) e José Veríssimo (1890). Os pensadores supracitados tornaram-se referência na educação brasileira ao movimentarem o debate em torno de ideais pedagógicas com base em experiências estrangeiras, recriando-as e modificando-as para que sua implantação se tornasse possível no país. Ao discutir o desenvolvimento das ideias pedagógicas dos pensadores da educação para o projeto de civilidade, modernidade e progresso, resultantes de concepções internacionais para a educação do país, a instrução das línguas encontrou solo fértil.
