The theme of this research is the 5th sustainable development objective of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations, entitled “Gender equality: achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls”. Its main objective is to identify the actions carried out by Brazilian libraries, and specifically characterize the profile of the librarian who addresses this narrative in their respective workplaces, in addition to identifying which sources of information are aligned with gender equality and female empowerment. It is raised the hypothesis that social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram are tools used as informal channels of information, characterized by dynamism and agility in communication and sharing of data, from the perspective of the librarian's social role. It is also configured as quali-quantitative research, being the instrument of data collection a questionnaire, with open, semi-open, and closed questions, based on the literature in Information science on the theme in question, which was applied to a sample of seven professionals. As a result, it was observed that most professionals promote lectures and events promoting the theme in question and that these professionals are female, corroborating what the literature points out. Most of them work in university libraries. Regarding the sources of information, it was observed that each professional focus on attending to the needs of their center of information, thus most of them pointed out that cultural actions and collection acquisition are the main sources of information used. It is concluded that the actions taken by the librarians are done according to the needs of the center of information to which they are connected. Finally, further studies are needed on the activities carried out in Brazil regarding gender equality and female empowerment. It is hoped that this work has brought significant contributions to the area of Information Science, in particular to the line of research Information and Society and that it will encourage debates and the development of future research on this subject.
