Resumo: In recent years, the increase of multiresistant bacteria (MDR) has led to the need for measures to control the spread of these pathogens. Among them are the development of Stewardship programs, adoption of surveillance measures, precaution, management of patients with MDR bacteria. This work is a descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional study wich aimed to identify the frequency of MDR bacteria isolated during admission of patients at the University Hospital of the Federal University of Sergipe. For this purpose, the results of cultures of rectal material collected at the moment of admission of the patients were analyzed for the period from January 2016 to December 2017. During the analyzed period, in 2016, 5.48% met the collection criteria of material with swab and in 2017, 7.39% were submitted to the procedure. Of this total, 14.06% were positive in 2016 and 11.25% in 2017. The most prevalent bacterium was Pseudomonas aeruginosa in 64.81% of the samples. Of the positive samples, 9.95% were of MDR bacteria in 2016 and 2.55% in 2017. The methodology of this dissemination prevention program was useful to identify multiresistant bacteria. Heterogeneity was observed in the positivity of the cultures of patients admitted in different sectors of the hospital and of patients with different origins.
