Resumo: This research proposes the investigation of the role of breathing within the work of creation, from the following question: To what extent can breathing be used as a means for the deflagration and development of the creative process of the scenic artist? It is a qualitative research that associates bibliographical research with a practical experience with actors and dancers, aiming to understand the path of the breath to the scenic action, the expressiveness, the image to the scenic creation. The first chapter deals with questions related to the physiology of respiration and its application in different currents of thought and scenic practices. The second chapter provides descriptions and reflections on the experience with a small group of volunteers who experienced the practice of breathing as a trigger for the creative process. Among the results, the research indicates that, through respiratory awareness, the artists obtained the knowledge and recognition of the body that breathes, besides several sensations, expressions, flows of thoughts.

Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa que associa a investigação bibliográfica a uma experiência prática com atores e bailarinos, visando compreender o caminho da respiração até a ação cênica, a expressividade, à imagem para a criação cênica. O primeiro capítulo trata de questões ligadas à fisiologia da respiração e sua aplicação em diferentes correntes de pensamento e práticas cênicas. O segundo capítulo traz descrições e reflexões sobre a experiência realizada com um pequeno grupo de voluntários que vivenciaram a prática da respiração como deflagrador do processo criativo.
