Resumo: The coastline is known for its high dynamism due to its location between the ocean and the mainland. Depending on the sedimentary balance, positive or negative, can progress or retreat (coastal erosion), respectively. Studies conducted in Brazil and around the world show that coastal erosion becomes a problem in occupied areas. Lack of knowledge of the dynamics of the coastline and its inappropriate occupation can cause socioeconomic damage. In Sergipe and, more specifically, on the coast of Aracaju this scenario is no different. Thus, the objective of this work was to analyze the shoreline variation in three beaches of Aracaju (Mosqueiro, Naufragos and Atalaia) from 2003 to 2016. Then, the variation envelope and the variation rates of the line were calculated by the statistical methods of end point rate and linear regression. Finally, shoreline rate of change data allowed the classification of shoreline behavior into: accretion (> + 0.5 m / year), stability (between -0.5 m / year and +0, 5 m / year), erosion (-0.5 to -1.0 m / year), intense erosion (-1.0 to -3.0 m / year), severe erosion (-3.0 to - 5, 0 m / yr), extreme erosion (<-5.0 m / yr). The envelope of the shoreline behavior showed higher values (262.68 m) at Mosqueiro beach, intermediate values (118.0 m) at Atalaia beach and smaller values (34.17 m) at Naufragos beach. In addition, Atalaia beach presented rates of variation between 8.0 and - 10.67 ± 1.44 m / year; Naufragos Beach had rates between - 1.71 and - 3.39 ± 0.23 m / year; and Mosqueiro beach, between - 3.70 and - 38.34 ± 1.66 m / year. The behavior of the shoreline during the period investigated was erosion (erosion, intense erosion, severe erosion and extreme erosion), stability and accretion on Atalaia beach; erosion (from intense to extreme) on Mosqueiro beach; and erosion (intense and severe) in the Naufragos beach, although it presents a more stable behavior in relation to the other two beaches. Overall, 89.43% of the coastline of the investigated beaches showed erosion behavior; 0.54% of stability and 10.03% of accretion from 2003 to 2016. This work serves as subsidies to the environmental and urban planning of the Aracaju coast.

This work serves as subsidies to the environmental and urban planning of the Aracaju coast. The coastline is known for its high dynamism due to its location between the ocean and the mainland.
