Resumo: Background: almost half of the world’s population drinks alcohol and understanding the effects of this substance in the public health is essential. The number of inpatients due to alcohol-related diseases is high, leading to a lot of deaths and a high amount of money spent in the hospital setting. Objective: to describe the epidemiological profile of the internations of totally-attributable alcohol-consumption diseases at Sergipe, from 2013 to 2017. Methods: this is a retrospective descriptive epidemiological study, a quantitative approach from the Hospital Information System from the Unique Health System and in the analisis was used the TABWIN, considering sex, age, hospital outcome type (with or without death), local of residency, internation’s local of ocurrence and value spent. Results: in the period of 2013-2017, it was found 2417 internations by totally-attributable alcohol-consumption diseases. The mental and behavioural disorders alcohol-associated was responsible for 70,8%, where the men showed the higher numbers (89,3%), and the more prevalent age range was between 40-49 years old (33,2%). It was found 215 deaths (8,9% of total cases). The region with the higher number of internations was Aracaju with 7,9%, where 56% was from local residents and 44% from no residents. The total amount of money spent in the hospital setting was R$ 1.178.737,26. Conclusion: the alcohol is linked to a high number of internations and deaths. Despite of the limitations of the Hospital Information System, it is a important source of data to epidemiological studies.
