The present research has as its theme the cultural heritage of the city of Laranjeiras, through the Afro-Brazilian Museum of Sergipe (MABS), whose objective was to discover how this heritage is safeguarded in this museum. For this purpose, a bibliographical and documentary research was developed as a means of acquiring information pertinent to the city and its patrimony, as well as the application of an interview directed to the director of the MABS to know, above all, how the organization and dissemination of information in the museum. In this way, it is a research of exploratory and descriptive nature, guided by the symbolism of the material and immaterial that compose the historicity of this community and its antecedents. Thus, this work exposes the interdisciplinarity of Information Science (CI), showing how information management is developed in places of memory, such as libraries, archives and museums. Therefore, the results of this study show that this city is full of cultural assets that are significant for the socio-cultural construction of the Sergipe state, but most of its intangible assets do not have a Recognition Registry. However, it was found that MABS does not yet have the capacity to represent the cultural heritage and collective memory of the city, since its museological practices are far from the reality proposed by Museology and Information Science.
