Entre stone e kubrick : um estudo sobre os filmes da guerra do Vietnã (1986-1993)

The present article aims to investigate how mental illness are represented in movies about the Vietnam War. Full Metal Jacket (KUBRICK, 1987), Platoon (STONE, 1986), Born on the Fourth July (STONE, 1989), Heaven and Earth (STONE, 1993) will be analysis objects. The film, according to Marc Ferro (1992), can be understood as a counter analysis of society, and an alternative manner to observe the past and the present. Now for Carretero (2005), the cinematographic work contains the ideologies and stereotypes of the peoples. Benoski’ s master dissertation (2004) and Melo’s doctoral thesis analyze the mental illness in different movies. Spini’s article (2008) and Moretti’s article (2003) discuss the interdisciplinarity between Cinema and History. The academics work will rely on the descriptive methodology. Furthermore, the search will use authors and sources of several areas of knowledge, and also there will be psychology analysis of central characters of Vietnam War. Finally, the film document constitutes an important object of research and psychological understanding of the society that produced it.
