The present research develops a literary analysis that endeavors to describe the artifices used by the narrator to describe the personage Lampião as hero or bandit in the work of cordel launched in 2013 whose title is called Lampião e Volta Seca em Itabaiana, authored by Robério Santos , that narrates his adventures of the king of the cangaço among the itabaianenses. In addition, in order to better situate ourselves on the way Lampião is expressed in the traditional cordel, as well as to make a brief comparison between these and the main object of our study, we also analyze the traditional cordeis Lampião, o capitão do cangaço, dated 1983 and authored by Gonçalo Ferreira, and Lampião, o rei do cangaço, by Antônio Teodoro, released in 1959. In these last ones, the authors occupy themselves in counting, adopting a biographical style, the trajectory of the cangaceiro from its birth until the moment of his death. The book by Robério Santos, in turn, has a plot not proven historically, dedicating itself to narrate not the complete life of the cangaceiro, but an isolated episode; nevertheless, the strong historical presence also remains in this work, materializing in the characters used and in the places mentioned. In the three cordeis analyzed, we note the partiality of the narrator, who worries about making the main character, although it is of a criminal nature, palatable and worthy of identification and empathy on the part of the reader. We note that, in the case of Lampião, the ambiguity, to a greater or lesser degree, will be present in the literary works destined to the same independent of the time in which they were written, not arriving at an exact conclusion on its good or bad nature of the king of cangaço.
