This article aims to discuss the space reached by the Porto D’Areia Quilombola Community in the city of Estância, bringing the leading role of community leaders in defense of popular cultures. In this context, we start from the memories of Bairro Porto D'Areia, located in the city of Estância (SE), currently recognized as Quilombola Community (2011), through which we focus on identity relationships, supported by cultural activities that are characteristic of that location. Although the research is in its initial phase, methodological procedures such as field studies, direct and indirect observations and interviews were noted in the field diary and primary and secondary bibliographic sources supported the perception that a portion of the community's civil society plays the role of social mobilization. In this study, we observe that community leaders have been based on public policies in favor of identity and territorial recognition. We observe that from the dialogues this quilombola community has been strengthened in favor of struggles and resistance, expanding the sense of belonging.
