Desafios da participação feminina nas Engenharias: um olhar sobre a Universidade Federal de Sergipe

Gender inequality in engineering fields is a widely phenomenon marked by the significant under- representation of women. The Federal University of Sergipe (UFS) is no exception to this reality, which demands an in-depth analysis of its causes and the proposition of solutions. In this context, the present work aims to analyze and discuss data on female participation in engineering at UFS and propose solutions to reduce gender disparities in this area. Through the analysis of institutional data, we sought to identify the evolution of female participation over time, noting the existence of this disparity. The study was based on the scientific literature to identify the possible causes, among them, gender socialization stands out, which since childhood perpetuates stereotypes and gender expectations, affecting the educational choices of girls, directing them to areas not related to the exact sciences. This disproportion shows that, despite the progress of women in the labor market, their presence in the areas of exact sciences and technology continues to be lower. As viable solutions, it is proposed the creation of groups that promote the participation of women, offering guidance and training in universities. These measures aim to reduce gender disparities in engineering, seeking a more inclusive and egalitarian environment.
