Resumo: The eighties were turbulent around the world as a consequence of the bipolarization formed by the conflict between socialism and capitalism. In Brazil the context was a transition from a dictatorial military regime to presidential democracy. The Brazilian youth found in rock and roll style of music and life a way of expressing their feelings about the society that lived to stop the nuclear threats existing in the period of the Cold War. This article intends to analyze the world scenario from the look of the Engineers of Hawaii, youth band created in the early 1980s, examining some of their compositions with the purpose of legitimizing the use of music as a potential historical source and showing how it can be used as didactic resource in history classes facilitating the teaching-learning process in the classroom.
