The city of Sao Cristovão is a landmark of the State of Sergipe, and the São Francisco Square received the seal of UNESCO world heritage. This monograph constitutes a discussion related to public archeology, cultural and archaeological heritage, cultural and archaeological tourism and issues related to the elevation of the São Francisco square to world Heritage. The main objective is to discuss the impact of this fact, and see if it changed the lives of the city residents. The field study used two screenplays semi-structured interviews, one directed to the residents of the town and other to professionals who work directly with the flow of tourists in the city (officials of museums, agencies tourism and etc...). Through the data analysis it was realized that most of the residents did not participate in the process of obtaining the title, and it also did not change their lives, although they have noticed an increase in visitation tourist areas of the city. The Square is important for residents since it refers to good memories. For workers the increase brought increase of tourists and generated changes. The Historical Museum of Sergipe greatly increased the number of visitors.
