Resumo: | Sorghum L. moench is a Poaceae with morphophysiological characteristics, which adapt to water deficiency conditions, thus becoming a promising alternative for the “Sergipe” Semiarid region. One way to select promising sorghum materials in the breeding program is to analyze the correlations between morphological variables. Thus, the objective was selection forage sorghum in semiarid region. For this, an experiment was carried out at Embrapa semiarid experimental farm, located in the municipality of Nossa Senhora da Glória /SE, using an experimental of randomized blocks design, with three replications. A total of 16 genotypes were used, four commercial witnesses and 12 experimental hybrids, totaling 48 plots. The traits studied were: plant height, stem diameter, panicle length, stand, stem weight, leaf weight, panicle weight, plant weight, fresh matter, dry matter, dry matter percentage and forage mass. Variability was observed between genotypes, and strong and positive phenotypic correlations of plant weight with stem weight, stem diameter and forage mass from 0,99, 0,92 and 0,78, respectively. Through the trail analysis, it was noticed that plant weight presented higher positive total (0,798) correlation and positive and a high direct effect on the forage mass (0,949). Thus, it is recommended the indirect selection of genotypes with higher forage mass, by means of higher plant weight. |

Uma maneira de selecionar materiais promissores de sorgo no melhoramento, é analisar as correlações entre as variáveis morfológicas. Assim, objetivou-se a seleção de sorgo forrageiro em região semiárida. Para tal, foi realizado um experimento na fazenda experimental da Embrapa Semiárido, localizada no município de Nossa Senhora da Glória /SE, utilizando-se delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, com três repetições. Foram utilizados 16 tratamentos, sendo quatro testemunhas comerciais e 12 híbridos experimentais, totalizando 48 parcelas. As variáveis estudadas foram: altura de plantas, diâmetro do colmo, comprimento da panícula, estande, peso do colmo, peso da folha, peso da panícula, peso da planta, matéria fresca, matéria seca, porcentagem de matéria seca e massa de forragem. Observou-se variabilidade entre os genótipos, e correlações fenotípicas fortes e positivas do peso da planta com peso do colmo, diâmetro do colmo e massa de forragem de 0,99, 0,92 e 0,78, respectivamente. Por meio da análise de trilha, notou-se que o peso da planta apresentou maior correlação total positiva (0,798) e positivo e alto efeito direto sobre a massa de forragem (0,949).
