Resumo: | Gliricidia sepium is a tree legume, resistant to water deficit, with high crude protein content in leaves and high forage mass production. These characteristics have made this legume a source of high nutritional quality, and can reduce the effects of forage seasonality on the production of ruminants. Two experiments were carried out. The first one was to evaluate the forage mass production and forage quality of gliricidia submitted to different population densities, being: 10,000, 20,000, 30,000 and 40,000 plants / ha. The following variables were evaluated: green and dry forage mass and dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) of leaves and fine stems. The experimental design was a randomized block with five replicates per treatment. The highest mass yields of green and dry forage were observed in treatments with 20,000, 30,000 and 40,000 plants / ha. PB, NDF and AD did not differ between treatments, and treatments with 10,000 and 40,000 plants / ha presented higher DM content. The recommended planting density for that local and similar edafoclimatic conditions is 20,000 plants / ha. In the second experiment, the fermentation characteristics of gliricidia silage associated to two additives (maize and molasses) were evaluated through the data of pH, lactic acid and ammoniacal nitrogen (N-NH3), and the chemical-bromatological composition of dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), mineral matter (MM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) and DM in vitro digestibility . The treatments used were: 1- 100% gliricidia (G); 2 - 95% G and 5% corn (C); 3 - 90% G and 10% C; 4 - 90% G, 5% (C) and 5% molasses (Mo); 5 - 95% G and 5% (Mo); 6 - 90% G and 10% Mo. Essas características fizeram desta leguminosa uma fonte de volumoso de qualidade, podendo reduzir os efeitos da estacionalidade forrageira sobre a produção de ruminantes. Foram realizados dois experimentos, tendo o primeiro como objetivo avaliar a produção de massa de forragem da gliricídia submetida a diferentes densidades populacionais sendo elas: 10.000, 20.000, 30.000 e 40.000 plantas/ha. Foram avaliadas as seguintes variáveis: produção de massa de forragem verde e seca e os teores de matéria seca (MS), proteína bruta (PB), fibra em detergente neutro (FDN) e fibra em detergente ácido (FDA) de folhas e caules tenros. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos casualizados com cinco repetições por tratamento. As maiores produções em massa de forragem verde e seca foram observadas nos tratamentos com 20.000, 30.000 e 40.000 plantas/ha. Os teores de PB, FDN e FDA não diferiram entre os tratamentos, e os tratamentos com 10.000 e 40.000 plantas/ha apresentaram maior teor de MS. A densidade de plantio indicada para aquelas condições de solo e clima é a de 20.000 plantas/ha. No segundo experimento, foram avaliadas as características de fermentação da silagem de gliricídia associada a dois aditivos (milho e melaço) através das análises do pH, ácido lático e nitrogênio amoniacal (N-NH3), e a composição químicobromatológica por meio da determinação dos teores de matéria seca (MS), proteína bruta (PB), matéria mineral (MM), fibra em detergente neutro (FDN) e fibra em detergente ácido (FDA) e a digestibilidade In vitro da MS. Os tratamentos utilizados foram: 1- 100% de gliricídia (G); 2 - 95% de G e 5% de milho (Mi); 3 - 90% de G e 10% de Mi; 4 - 90% de G, 5% de Mi e 5% de melaço (Me); 5 - 95% de G e 5% de Me; 6 - 90% de G e 10% de Me. Cada tratamento teve cinco repetições, totalizando trinta mini silos, arranjados em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado. A PB, FDN e FDA diminuíram com a adição de aditivos na silagem, enquanto que os teores de MS e MM aumentaram, e a melhor digestibilidade foi alcançada nos tratamentos com adição de 5 % e 10% de melaço na silagem. A adição de milho não alterou as características fermentativas e nutricionais da silagem. A adição de melaço aumentou a digestibilidade, produção de ácido lático e diminuiu a concentração de N-NH3.
