O livro didático e o professor de matemática: seleção ou imposição?

Resumo: This paper is a cut from a work’s completion of course in mathematics that aimed to describe how mathematics teachers choose the textbook, identifying which criteria are taken into consideration for this choice. For this, we made an observation about the teachers' activities in relation to the textbook and applied a questionnaire to 10 mathematics teachers from state public schools in the municipality of Palmeira dos Índios, Alagoas, Brazil. The results, in addition to corroborating previous studies, underscore the need for investments in teacher training, initial and continuing, which enable a better choice of the textbook that will be used in the classroom. Better working conditions for the teacher and a more reflective analysis of schools' educational practices are also needed.
