Prevalência das enteroparasitoses em crianças e adolescentes numa cidade do interior do nordeste

Enteroparasitoses represent a public health problem, with high prevalence in poor communities. They cause numerous comorbidities, including anemia, and can lead to developmental deficits in children. The objectives of this study were to estimate the prevalence of infection by enteroparasitoses in children under 20 years of age, and its main etiological agents, the age at which there is higher prevalence, relating the infection to age and sex, in users of the Health System in the municipality of Lagarto-SE. This is a retrospective, observational, crosssectional, quantitative, descriptive study carried out in clinical analysis laboratories in the city of Lagarto-SE. The data were collected from electronic medical records to calculate pevalence. The sample involved 1,526 participants, in which 44.76% presented positivity for some parasitosis, being 42.17% protozoans, 13.62% helminths, 32.21% commensals and 12.15% with bi or polyparasitism. The positivity rates were equivalent between female and male sexes, 53% and 47%, respectively. Parasitic infections were more prevalent in those older than 14 years. Giardia lamblia was the pathogen with the highest prevalence rate (23.43%).
