Information search behavior studies aim to understand the elements of interest, need and information habits of individuals, as well as to trace human and social factors that affect the relationship between the user and the information. Based on this premise, this work has as objectives: to understand the information search behavior of users of the Historical and Geographic Institute of Sergipe, pointing out what type of information they seek, what their information need is, as well as the internal and external factors that influence the information search process. Through an exploratory-descriptive research, with a quantitative approach, a questionnaire was applied to 23 users of the Institute, making it possible to relate the pattern of information behavior of these individuals with other studies developed throughout Brazilian scientific production. Thus, it is concluded that IHGSE users seek information through the Institute's newspapers and library, under the influence of prior knowledge and the undergraduate and / or postgraduate advisor, who guide the development of academic research. These individuals seek information directly from the Institute's employees and factors such as lighting, ventilation, time for carrying out the research influence the development of the information search process for these individuals.
