Formas de financiamento e sustentabilidade do jornalismo alternativo no ambiente digital : as experiências da Agência Mural e da Marco Zero

Resumo: The present dissertation was based on the will to investigate the main forms of financing contemporary alternative media, heavily influenced by the constant social appropriation of digital information and communication technologies. To follow this path, it was necessary to address, first, the ambiguities and inaccuracies of the term “alternative”, as applied to communication, the media and journalism. For this, a search for experiences and conceptual discussions that guided these alternative practices, from the decade of 70 of the last century, was done. In this way, it was possible to identify elements and social processes characteristic of journalism practiced by media that emerged in the 21st century, such as the selection of news, the treatment of sources, the work performed by professionals, among others. It was also realized that these proposals for alternative and independent journalism are inseparable from the new forms of financial sustainability of these practices, which are no longer restricted to advertising. To understand these particularities, two experiments were chosen for empirical analysis: Agência Mural, from São Paulo, and Marco Zero, from Pernambuco (in the northeast region of the country). With differentiated business models, these initiatives reveal new possibilities of professional practice in journalism that is alternative to the hegemonic media and financially independent from the traditional advertising market. Finally, based on notions from the Geographies of Communication, we analyze how the local and regional territories influence and are influenced by the actions and narratives produced by the Agência Mural and Marco Zero.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Para seguir este camino, fue necesario abordar, en primer lugar, las ambigüedades e imprecisiones del término “alternativa”, tal como se aplica a la comunicación, los medios y el periodismo. Para esto, se realizó una búsqueda de experiencias y discusiones conceptuales que guiaron estas prácticas alternativas, desde la década de los 70 del siglo pasado. De esta forma, fue posible identificar elementos y procesos sociales característicos del periodismo practicado por los medios que surgieron en el siglo XXI, como la selección de noticias, el tratamiento de las fuentes, el trabajo realizado por profesionales, entre otros. También se constató que estas propuestas de periodismo alternativo e independiente son inseparables de las nuevas formas de sostenibilidad financiera de estas prácticas, que ya no están restringidas a la publicidad. Para comprender estas particularidades, se eligieron dos experimentos para el análisis empírico: Agência Mural, de São Paulo, y Marco Zero, de Pernambuco (en la región noreste del país). Con modelos de gestión diferenciados, estas iniciativas revelan nuevas posibilidades de práctica profesional en el periodismo que son una alternativa a los medios hegemónicos y financieramente independientes del mercado publicitario tradicional. Finalmente, a partir de nociones de las Geografías de la Comunicación, analizamos cómo los territorios locales y regionales influyen y están influenciados por las acciones y narrativas producidas por Agência Mural y Marco Zero.A presente dissertação partiu da vontade de investigar as principais formas de financiamento das mídias alternativas contemporâneas, marcadas pela constante apropriação social das tecnologias digitais de informação e comunicação (TDICs). Para seguir este caminho, foi necessário enfrentar, primeiro, as ambiguidades e imprecisões do termo “alternativo” aplicado à comunicação, à mídia e ao jornalismo. Para isso, foi feita uma pesquisa sobre as experiências e discussões conceituais que pautaram essas práticas alternativas, desde a década de 70 do século passado. Nesse percurso, foi possível identificar elementos e processos sociais característicos do jornalismo praticado por veículos que emergiram no século XXI, como a seleção de notícias, o tratamento das fontes, o trabalho desempenhado pelos profissionais, entre outros. Percebeu-se, também, que essas propostas de jornalismo alternativo e independente são indissociáveis das novas formas de sustentabilidade financeira dos veículos, que não mais se restringem à publicidade. Para compreender essas particularidades foram escolhidas duas experiências para análise empírica: Agência Mural, de São Paulo, e Marco Zero, de Pernambuco. Com modelos de gestão diferenciados, estas iniciativas revelam novas possibilidades de exercício profissional no jornalismo alternativo à mídia hegemônica e financeiramente independente do mercado publicitário tradicional.
