Field classes are an essential part in Ecology teaching, contributing both to increasing students learning as well as to improving their environmental awareness. This study aims to analyze the use of field classes in natural environments of the State of Sergipe, in undergraduate courses at the Universidade Federal de Sergipe, in the classroom and distance learning modalities. Questionnaires were administered to students who attended courses related to the field of Ecology. Students cited the ecosystems and conservation units visited and the activities undertaken. They also mentioned difficulties found, such as lack of transportation, material, time availability, and even of teacher’s interest, as factors responsible for the field classes below their expectations. More investment in human and material resources are needed to overcome the difficulties found out, in order to field classes become an essential and integrated part of Ecology teaching.
