Resumo: | Hyptis fruticosa is a sub-shrub belonging to the Lamiaceae family, commonly found in the Brazilian northeast coast and popularly used as a medicinal plant in the treatment for pain and other conditions. However, there are few reports on the biological activity of H. fruticosa and there are no reports of studies with its stem. On the context, this study is to provide the antioxidant profile in vitro of the Hyptis fruticosa stem ethanol extract (EEHF). In this study, was determined the content of total flavonoids and phenolic compounds, which showed significant concentrations in the plant. The antioxidant activity was determined by the radical scavenging of 2,2-difenil-1-picril-hidrazil (DPPH) and nitric oxide (NO), electron transfer capability by reducing potential (FRAP) and inhibition of lipid peroxidation by TBARS method, where EEHF showed good results in all tests at the concentrations tested. This study represents the first report on the antioxidant effect of Hyptis fruticosa stem and is intended to serve as support for future studies with the plant. |

No entanto, ainda há poucos relatos sobre a atividade biológica de H. fruticosa e não há relatos sobre estudos com seu caule. Diante do contexto, esse trabalho consiste em fornecer o perfil antioxidante in vitro do extrato etanólico do caule de Hyptis fruticosa (EEHF). No presente estudo, foi determinado o teor de compostos fenólicos e flavonoides totais, que mostraram concentrações significantes na planta. A atividade antioxidante foi determinada pelos testes de varredura de radicais 2,2-difenil-1-picril-hidrazil (DPPH) e óxido nítrico (NO), capacidade de transferência de elétrons por potencial redutor (FRAP) e inibição da peroxidação lipídica pelo método TBARS, onde EEHF demonstrou boa resposta em todos os testes nas concentrações testadas.
