For companies to achieve their productive process, they need to efficiently maintain their inventories, since they represent an asset, and are fundamental elements for the realization of the production and sales process. The stocks of raw materials are considered as buffers of the productive process, while the stocks of finished products are the driving force behind sales. This monograph aims to analyze the main causes of the lack of inventory of goods at the point of sale of a large supermarket chain in the city of Aracaju-Sergipe. Specifically, it aimed to understand how inventory flows occur, identifying the main factors (external and internal) that cause merchandise disruptions, as well as explaining the main consequences of lack of stock. Methodologically, a case study was carried out in one of the stores belonging to a large supermarket chain. A questionnaire was used to collect data with questions about the management of warehouse and difficulties created by the lack of merchandise in the supermarket object of the research, an interview script with the company manager was also applied. The results indicate that on the management of warehouse it was observed that all process begins with purchase order generated by the system through the auxiliary of resupply. The receipt of goods will occur either with direct delivery from the supplier or from the distribution center of the supermarket chain (matrix). Material control is done in partnerships with employees and by the registered sales system and the physical inventory carried out each quarter. To do so, having an organized warehouse facilitates the distribution of materials to supply the respective sections. Identifying products through control models and bar codes, minimizes losses such as overdue products, incorrect prices and goods in ruptures on the shelves, which are stored only in the warehouse, not available to the final consumer.
