Privação relativa e representações sociais dos direitos humanos

This study had as objective to investigate the social representations of human rights from Sergipe inhabitants. We relate the notions of human rights with relative deprivation feelings, which can be understood as the subjective perception between what one receives and what he judges that would be fair/deserved to be received. The research carried out with 381 subjects from six cities of Sergipe indicates that a significant proportion of those doesn’t even know what human rights are; and still, the unfamiliarity level with the term “human rights” is higher among gratified persons and lower among the deprivated ones. These data are discussed through social representation and human rights theories.
