Entre lugares de sentimentos e espaços de liberdade: encontros geográficos com o romance Julieta, coisa e tal de Osmar Rodrigues Marques

In the context of the relationship between Geography and Literature and its approximation with humanistic geography, this study was driven by the unveiling of the spatial relations apprehended in the novel Julieta, Coisa e tal, produced by Osmar Rodrigues Marques, published in 1986. The text emphasizes the category place, enabling the feeling of belonging and identity, by bringing the daily life of the brothel Casa Amarela, located in the central area of the city of Caxias A princesa do sertão maranhense. In time, the novel is set between the 1970s/1980s, when the trajectory of the character Juliet is detailed by relationships, places frequented and, above all, by her perception of the practices, resulting from the lived environment. In this sense, we conducted the research with the objective of analyzing the feeling of belonging and identity present in the geography and history of the character Julieta in the literary novel "Julieta Coisa e Tal" by Osmar Rodrigues Marquês, considering the articulation between the plot, the narrator, the characters and the space of the work, the city of Caxias/Maranhão. . The specific objectives delimited our academic path by seeking (i) to identify the relationships, experiences and experiences of Juliet that were builders and constituents of her identity; (ii) to know the different forms of appropriation of Juliet's sense of identity and, (iii) to reflect on the spatial identity as well as the feeling of belonging to the geographical place expressed in the work of Rodrigues Marques. For the construction of the dissertation we carried out a documentary and bibliographical research in order to approach and understand the reality of the object studied, emphasizing the relevance of the documents and studies accessed to understand the elements that moved the research and helped the understanding of the questions posed in the objectives. It is a plot full of experiences and experiences, the result of the perception and interpretation of the places described and, in this sense, the link of affectivity to the Caxiense space showed us the sensitivity of the author to the relations intertwined in the political, economic, cultural and natural aspects. The construction of the feeling of belonging is a relevant element in every plot of the work in question. The characters in their existential essence, the behavior and expressions of those who inhabit the brothel create, throughout the narrative, a feeling of affection and participation at the time in which the reader is allowed to move through the streets and squares of Caxias and the interior of the Yellow House. We understand that space lived in literature is active in the construction of the imaginary because, through descriptions and namings, places are represented with distinct affective characteristics, provoking geography, in the case of our study, in its reflections on observation and belonging of places and, construction of identities.
