The present work is result of the research that proposed to analyze the conformation of the theoretical production on mental health of Brazilian Social Work in contemporary times, in view of the advance of conservatism and ultraliberalism. Social Work, in addition to being a profession that works directly with the population that uses public policies, also produces knowledge, not only necessary to base its intervention on reality, but also to influence the debate on theoretical foundations on health. Therefore, it is necessary to know, understand and follow the dynamics of this theoretical production. The historical-dialectical materialist method was used, and in relation to the approach, exploratory research. For the selection of works for analysis, a bibliographical research was used, which resulted in 20 productions selected in the Annals of the Brazilian Congress of Social Workers (BCSW). The results showed that, especially among the most recent texts, the authors expressed concern with the advance of neoliberalism and its consequences on mental health policy and the implementation of psychiatric reform. The conceptions found in the works studied demonstrate that there is a commitment to the ethical-political project of the profession, and consequently to the working class and the quality of the services provided. In mental health, it is essential to have the principles of the Social Worker's Code of Ethics as guiding practice, as it is only with the recognition of freedom as a central ethical value, uncompromising defense of human rights and encouragement of respect and diversity that is quality performance was achieved.
