The present work aims to establish the relation between drug traffic and female incarceration, considering that crime is the one who incarcerate more women worldwide.Through a exploratory study grounded on bibliographic research, aimed to analyse the socioeconomic and gender factors who lead women to jail for drug traffic, and the social impacts of that reality. Initially was taken an historic caugh up about the development of prohibicionists campaigns internationally established that showed low effectiveness in its declared porpouses of health and public safety protection. Sacrifices thousands of lives, usually black and poor, that exercises little or no power on drug market structure, with disproportionate punishment that reveals selective purposes. Women experience even more particular situation. The exponential increase on female prision population can be explained by the social vunerability women face, confirmed by the power relation set and developed on the family, religious and social scope. The condition favors the utilization of their bodies on drug transportation, or through their relationships or as the only available mean to social rise. Comes to the phenomenon of feminization of poverty, that favor female criminalization and the reprodution of intergenerational narratives. We conclude that poor latin american women faces difficulties to acess formal work opportunities, due to the sexual division of labor, that dont consider the economic value of domestic work, what favors their criminalization. At the end, the caracterization of the forms of participation described through personal reports gives form to the theoretical reality presented, pointing the violence and abuse experienced by women that enter traficc careers. It manifest that informal control preceedes the problematic of penal system.
