The work aims to analyze the representation of the LGBT group in comic books, specifically in the super-hero genre. To this end, comic books are acknowledged as a form of mass media, and its power in influencing the social representation of a group is discussed. A brief history of comic books is presented, and the influence of the organization Comics Code Authority is exposed. The paper highlights the impact that this organization had in the social representation of the LGBT group, during different versions of what was accepted by their guidelines, and the way in which the authors tried to adapt to the rules in regards to LGBT representation. Lastly, we analyze the narrative trajectory of two LGBT characters from the X-Men franchise, Mystique and Destiny, as the first couple in comic books to part ways with heteronormative patterns, being the first same-sex couple to adopt a young teenager. We examine how the narrative of the characters is developed, from a time period of 1978 to June of 2021, as well as how their sexuality and their relationship is explored, ranging from implicit moments to explicit declarations of love as a reflection of how the public opinion in regards to homosexuality changed through the decades.
