The present research had the objective of analyzing the possible implications of clothing, represented in images or addressed in texts related to the secretarial field, in the construction of the identity of the secretary's profession, in the period from 1950 to 2020. As stages of the investigation, we sought to verify the role of clothing in the expression of identity, to identify the clothing adopted by the secretary, as well as to examine the narratives that accompany the approach of this clothing. The research is characterized as bibliographic and documental, using as sources texts, images, handouts, and advertising materials, as one of the beginning and end of each decade of the time frame, and the analyses are developed in a qualitative way. The results point out that clothing is among the several aspects that have created the image of a profession focused on women. As well as the clothing, all the elements are associated with the feminine, such as earrings, rings, shoes, hair, handbags, and make-up. This composes an identity, a way of being and existing as a secretary in the workplace. Although throughout the decades examined fashion has changed, the suit has been adopted as a kind of uniform that identifies the professional who performs such a function.
