Resumo: The aim of this study was to investigate how the future perspectives of young people in conditions of social vulnerability are influenced by climate and quality of education, considering the role of self-esteem. The survey was conducted in large public schools in two cities (Aracaju and Itabaiana). Participants were 507 students from public schools, aged between 14 and 24 years, 61.1% female and 38.9% male, pursuing higher chances of vulnerability conditions. The instrument was composed of 58 questions, self-responded and confidential, including scales about Future Perspective, Climate and School Quality, and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, among other measurements. The average age was 17.08 years (SD=1.55). Results indicate that young people studying in rural area schools has presented better perception about the institution than those studying in the capital (t=-6,407; p=.000). Young students in the capital presented higher levels of self-esteem than those in the rural areas (t=-.677, p=.499), while, on the level of future perspective, rural students has presented better rates (t=-1.951, p=.052). ANOVA between Future Perspective and Climate and School Quality showed no relationship between higher levels of satisfaction of school and best Future Perspectives (F=3.661, p=0.26), as well as young people who consider their schools good quality, have higher levels of self-esteem (F=7.234, p=.001). A linear regression showed that the Climate and School Quality and Self-Esteem explain 18% (R²=0.182) of student´s Future Perspective. Data suggest that school quality is a strong variable associated with youth future perspective, just as self-esteem and income.
