RESUMO: Este artigo propõe-se a apresentar uma análise discursiva das manifestações psicológicas da personagem Emma Bovary frente à repressão sócio-histórico-cultural vivida por ela no romance realista Madame Bovary (1857), do escritor francês Gustave Flaubert (1821-1880). No romance, é possível observar que os conflitos de Emma giram em torno da temática do casamento e do adultério, e, partindo desta premissa, a partir da análise semiolinguística do discurso, mais especificamente, do dispositivo de contrato sociocomunicativo proposto por Patrick Charaudeau (2008), pretendemos investigar como o autor constrói a imagem da personagem diante do comportamento imposto à mulher no século XIX e assim, traçar correspondências de determinadas posições sócio-histórico-culturais do momento em que a obra foi publicada com o contexto histórico atual. Ethos.        ABSTRACT: This paper proposes to present a discursive analysis of the psychological manifestations of the character Emma Bovary front of the social historical cultural repression experienced by her in the realistic novel Madame Bovary (1857), by Gustave Flaubert (1821- 1880). In the novel, Emma's conflicts revolve around wedding and adultery, and, from this premise, based on the semiolinguistic analysis of discourse, more specifically the socio-communicative contract device proposed by Patrick Charaudeau (2008) we intend to investigate how the author builds the image of the character in front of the behavior imposed to women in the nineteenth century, thus, trace correspondences of certain social historical cultural positions of the moment that the work was published with the current historical context.
