AS CONSTRUÇÕES RELATIVAS NO FALAR SEABRENSE: UMA ANÁLISE MULTINOMIAL (POLITÔMICA)

Anchored in the sociolinguistic analysis model (LABOV, 2008 [1972]), we sought to examine with this study the effect of linguistic and social variables on relative constructions (CRel) in the spoken Portuguese of Seabra, a Brazilian municipality in the state of Bahia. To this end, we coded all occurrences of CRel present in 12 (twelve) sociolinguistic interviews belonging to the database of the Project Se abra à Chapada: coletando, explorando and mapeando dados sociolinguísticos (CEMEDADOS), in four variants: neutral, resumptive (relative strategies non-prepositioned), pied-piping and pp-chopping (prepositional relative strategies). With the help of the R programming language (R CORE TEAM, 2020), we performed univariate and multivariate analyzes (logistic regression), testing linguistic and extralinguistic correlations. The results showed a significant increase in the pied-piping variant by speakers with a university education level, a disfavor of the resumptive by women and a favoring of the semantic values ​​of place and time for the cutter and of place for the pied-piping in detriment of the neutral variant. Thus, given the schooling process, the increase in the indexes of the pied-piping strategy in focus can be considered an indication of a shift from vernacular speech towards educated speech.
