Ariel. Estética da recepção. Morte. Poesia confessional. ABSTRACT: Ariel, posthumously published in 1965, is the last book of poems Sylvia Plath wrote and is still acclaimed as one of the most visceral works of confessional modern poetry. Considering its relevance and intending to better comprehend the reception of the book, we investigated three academic articles published in English in the years of 1966, 1972 and 1976. Our analysis is supported by the theoretical concepts of Reception Aesthetics, formulated by H. R. Jauss in Literary history as a challenge to literary theory (1967). The theory presented a contrasting proposition to critical and theoretical practices that dominated literary interpretations during the 1960’s, once it suggests an analytical approach of the interpretation of the readers. The objective of this paper, then, is to point out possible similarities between the interpretations of the scholars towards the poems of Ariel, considering that the volume is widely known for its relation with death. KEYWORDS: Sylvia Plath. Ariel. Reception Aesthetics. Death. Confessional poetry. |
