Resumo: RESUMO: Álvares de Azevedo, considerado um dos grandes escritores românticos brasileiros, apresentou-nos uma prosa com tendências próximas ao gótico e ao fantástico. Macário e Noite na taverna possuem traços do fantástico e alguns aspectos grotescos, noturnos e mórbidos herdados do gótico. A proposta do artigo é apresentar alguns destes pressupostos aparentes nas duas obras. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Álvares de Azevedo. Gótico. Fantástico.      ABSTRACT: Álvares de Azevedo, considered one of the greatest romantic Brazilian writers, presented us such prose with tendencies close to the Gothic and the Fantastic styles. Macário and Noite na taverna have traces belonging to the Fantastic and some grotesque, nightly and morbid aspects inherited from the Gothic.
